About me
Pauline Blackwood
Community Dance Facilitator & Massage Therapist
My main focus has always been community dance with a mindful student focused approach. I am a plus sized woman and my aim has always been to create a safe space for anyone and every type of body to move in.
I have been involved in the Middle Eastern community dance scene for many years and my ethos centres on working in an age and culturally inclusive way. My dance has been inspired by the work of Suraya Hilal, however, the beauty of this genre of dance is that it allows room for cross cultural influences and collaborations. My dance is informed by the music of the African & Arab Diaspora and I use dance to explore ideas of mindfulness, wellness, nature, aging and storytelling.
With my PGCE in Education and 17 years teaching I have now moved into the field of complementary therapies but still sustain my dance practice working at grass roots level as well as teaching and hosting Hilal Dance Teachers in London.
