MEET THE TRIBE
Beverley Glean MBE
Beverley Glean MBE is the Founder and Artistic Director of IRIE! dance theatre. She has worked in the field of Dance of the African Diaspora (DAD) for over 30 years. She has trained and worked alongside artists from the Caribbean, West Africa, Europe and the USA. Beverley founded IRIE! dance theatre in 1985.
BA (Hons) Diverse Dance Styles
The BA (Hons) Diverse Dance Styles programme is IRIE! dance theatre’s flagship course – the first-ever BA course in the UK that places equal emphasis on African, Caribbean, Contemporary and Urban dance techniques. The course is validated by the University of Roehampton.
Community Outreach
We provide regular activities focused on our community and create opportunities for young people, adults and elders. Currently, we have a community programme of online classes, educational sessions for young people and Making Tracks – a series of masterclasses for professional development in dance.
Moonshot Centre
In 2016, IRIE! took over the day to day management of the Moonshot Community Centre in partnership with Lewisham Council. Stepped in an abundance of heritage from our African and Caribbean communities, IRIE! intends to preserve the centres legacy by developing a Heritage Project to honour this history as we develop new and established programmes of activities and resources.
